In case of an accident

What to do in the event of a traffic accident?

Before leaving the scene of the accident, the person who caused the accident as well as the person who suffered as a result should be agreed on. In order to do that, the best way is to use the form Notification about a traffic accident or to prepare a handwritten paper document, describing the circumstances of the accident.

You should describe clearly and comprehensibly (if possible, with drawings) how the accident happened. Drivers should confirm their responsibility with a signature: who is the injured party and who was responsible for the accident. We also recommend that you take pictures of the accident scene and take contact details of any witnesses. The vehicles must not be moved from the scene of the accident before the circumstances of the accident are agreed on.

The police should be called to the scene of the accident if, as a result of the traffic accident, bodily injury was caused, if the person who has caused the accident is unknown, or the parties cannot reach an agreement as to who was responsible for the accident.

An injured person must notify the insurance company with which they have entered into a valid traffic insurance contract about the damage as soon as possible.

What to do if an accident has occurred abroad?

You should notify the insurer about the damage as soon as possible. You can do that via phone, fax, or e-mail, or via the homepage of the insurer. You should notify the insurance company whose cover you have purchased! Read additional information about what to do in the event of a loss.
